TL;DR We had to say goodbye to Tig today and I will love him forever 💔

•••

In 2007, a litter of kittens was born on the top of our Nana’s outdoor produce fridge. Although they were technically strays, they had a whole family that loved them from the very first day.

All of us cousins were so excited to raise these kittens until they were old enough to be adopted. I was only 14 at the time and this was one of the coolest things that ever happened in my whole life. I wrote my first high school essay about it. 😂

When the kittens were finally old enough, they got adopted one by one. At the end, there were only two left. The little orange & white girl cat (Tink) was almost sent off to go live in a barn, but that would leave her identical brother (Tig) behind with no home.

We were all so devastated to separate these two because they loved each other so much. But my Dad said “you know what, just bring them both home.” So then Tigger and Tinkerbell came home to live with us. (And yes, 14 year old Jess absolutely named these cats 😂)

•••

After 16 wonderful years all together, today it was time for Tig to pass on. He has been a constant for over half of my life, which is insane to think. Going through life together has been amazing, but these past 3 years especially I have grown so close to the old boy. I knew I would be so heartbroken when this day finally came. 💔

Tig, your personality was truly the best part about you. I have NEVER met a cat like you - sometimes you acted more like a dog than a cat. 😂 You would greet us at the door every time we came home. You wanted to be involved in everything we did. And you were more snuggly & affectionate than probably 99% of the cat population. We absolutely hit the jackpot with the love you brought into our home.

I’m going to miss the little sound you made every time someone pet you. You were such a vocal cat, always talkin’ away. It was truly your most iconic quality. 🐈🎶

There were so many things that were distinctly Tig. The cute clunkiness of your walk. The little mustache pattern around your nose. The snuggly head butts whenever we got close to you. Crossing your paws like a fancy cat.
