This post is Part 2 of our Weekend Trip to Florence! Click here to catch up on Florence Part 1!
Our second day in Florence was actually Halloween! This was one of the last beautiful weather days we had before the temperatures started dropping so we were determined to enjoy every bit of it!
Florence Morning Photo Shoot
Waking up in the morning in this Airbnb was absolutely dreamy. Here are some daytime photos so you can see it in its ideal state:
Again, if you guys are heading to Florence, I’ll share the link to this unit with you! (not sponsored or anything, just out of pure recommendation) Here’s the link to this Airbnb!
We had to take advantage of the stunning patio views, so we started the day with a photoshoot on the terrace! It was so surreal and these photos are some of my all-time favorites.
Florence Sandwich Stop #1
Once we felt satisfied with the million photos that we took, we went into town to explore!
This sandwich shop caught our eye called Antica Porchetteria Granieri 1916 and it was PHENOMENAL. Steven got a sandwich with hand-carved meat. The bread was so fresh and warm, the crust was flaky and it had such a good flavor!
Little Florence Discoveries
We wandered into a little wood-carving shop and it was all themed Pinocchio! Our Disney-loving hearts were singing. They love Pinnochio here in Florence!
Let’s Eat Some Breakfast!
Then we went to get breakfast at Ditta Artigianale and they had actual breakfast food! Most breakfasts in Italy that we came across were just sweets and coffees, (which is delicious but makes my blood sugar go crazy!) so I was thrilled to get a substantial breakfast. I got a poppyseed bagel sandwich with avocado, eggs, and bacon. Steven got a salmon bagel and also a Pumpkin ‘Spicy’ Latte 😂 Had to get it to celebrate Halloween!
Hiking Up To Piazzale Michelangelo
After breakfast, we walked by the water and met up with Dea to do the hike up to Piazzale Michelangelo, which was a gorgeous overlook. The hike wasn’t super long (maybe about 20 minutes or so) but there were areas that were a bit steep.
Overall, it was absolutely worth a few moments of a steep climb for this gorgeous view! We could see so much of Florence – the buildings, the river, all of it!
A lot of people recommend coming up here with a bottle of wine to watch the sunset, which I can imagine would be incredibly dreamy! It was pretty crowded but for good reason, it was beautiful!
On our trek down (which was much easier) we saw some fountains and beautiful buildings along the way! This was definitely a lovely way to spend the afternoon!
Florence Sandwich Stop #2
Upon our arrival back into the city center, Steven had his eye on a sandwich shop called All’antico Vinaio that had CRAZY lines. But, you know, it seems that places with the craziest lines oftentimes have some of the best (or at least most popular) food. It was definitely one of the most well-known sandwich shops in Florence. So he decided to get in line!
Dea and I walked around Florence and grabbed to-go (sorry, take away! 😉) cups of limoncello spritz and sat on some steps. We FaceTimed our family back at home which was so fun! What a crazy moment for us cousins to be on a different continent together!
After almost two hours, Steven came back with 4 sandwiches and we all ate them on the steps. They were so good, I don’t even know what was in them besides meat and bread and cheese (because let’s be honest, I was a few spritzes in at this point) but we really enjoyed the sandwiches a lot!
Overall, I think I actually preferred the sandwich from this morning over this one! (plus, that place had no line when we were there!) But both were extremely tasty!
Wrapping Up Florence
Dea had to head out for her Halloween party, so we said goodbye! Before going back to the apartment, Steven and I stopped at a little restaurant and got one more limoncello spritz each to round out the night.
We walked home after that and passed by the Russian Orthodox Church on the way home. It looked so spooky at night, perfect for Halloween. 👻
We stopped at the gelato shop and each got 3 flavors that were absolutely INSANE. I got a Nutella one, a berries one, and some sort of cream one. They were all so different than any gelato we’ve had yet so far! Amazing.
We got back to the Air B&B, hung out on the couch I passed out asleep. Steven watched Hocus Pocus and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and a Mickey Halloween short to relish in the Halloween spirit.
When I woke up, I drank a bunch of water and ate some more of my sandwich to soak up all of the drinks I had today! We went outside one last time to admire the view one last time. It was a much clearer night tonight actually which allowed us to see even more than before.
Then after all that we went to sleep. We had an early morning coming up and a mini day-trip tomorrow arriving back in Rome!
